Real Madrid sets winning Record of 22 Matches

Real Madrid may have set a new record of winning 22 matches in succession in all competitions, but they suffered a defeat against his former AC Milan team in a friendly match.

This was one of the high profile friendlies for the team during the winter break. Madrid have gone into the winter break not just as the European champions, but also the world champions after winning the Fifa Club World Cup title in Morocco. Carlo Ancelotti has managed to put behind a poor start to get his team on the path towards yet another league title.

The 4-2 defeat against Milan comes as a major shock given that the Italian club are struggling to get into the top three of the Italian Serie A. Despite this, Ancelotti dismissed suggestions that this defeat hurts them immensely. This was the only friendly scheduled for the Spanish outfit before the return to league action in the first week of January. They take on Valencia in an away match followed by a mammoth clash against archrivals Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey. Ancelotti is not worried that this defeat may affect the team before the season resumes. Madrid are comfortably top of the table with a one-point advantage and a match in hand.

"This defeat doesn't hurt us whatsoever. We've had a week of preparation, and physically we were fine.We got ourselves back up to speed after the holidays and did what we needed to do. Everyone had their 45 minutes. Now we'll rest for a day and then two more to prepare for the match at Mestalla. We're very happy to have finished this fantastic year. Milan played well and we didn't, that's it.

You can't say that this defeat changes what we achieved this year, of course not," said Ancelotti.
