A Cristiano Ronaldo double helped Real Madrid secure a 13 point advantage in the Spanish la Liga.

Real Madrid were coming into the match against Real Betis knowing that a victory could send them 13 points clear at the top of the table, as Barcelona were not playing until Sunday.

Surprisingly, Real Betis took the lead in the match through Jorge Molina just 10 min into the contest. It was a real shock for Real Madrid and José Mourinho, who has earlier said that he would like to stay with Real Madrid beyond the end of the season amidst reports claiming that he is set for the Chelsea job.

However, José Mourinho masterminded the recovery for Real Madrid after Gonzalo Higuain secured the equaliser a few minutes later. Özil provided the assist that helped Gonzalo Higuain to score in the 25th minute. Real Madrid, though, could not press their advantage in the first half, as they headed into the break level with Real Betis.

However, in the second half, Real Madrid showed their superior quality by taking the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently the top scorer in the Spanish la Liga. Lionel Messi was getting all the praise in the country after scoring five goals in the Champions League for the first time, but Ronaldo helped Real Madrid move 13 points clear after his double in the match.

Soon after Cristiano Ronaldo had found the net for Real Madrid, Montero scored for Real Betis to provide yet another shock to José Mourinho and his system. The former Chelsea manager had made two of his substitutions in the first half itself. He resisted making the change, and Cristiano Ronaldo ensured that his belief was not wasted after the sublime goal in the second half to give Real Madrid the lead, which they never relinquished.
