Joachim Loew picks Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo

Germany head coach Joachim Loew regards Barcelona’s Lionel Messi as the most complete player compared to Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo has impressed with his goalscoring exploits with Los Blancos for the past nine seasons but Loew believes Messi is the better player overall due to his ability to contribute regular assists. Speaking to reporters, Loew said: “I’d go with Messi. Ronaldo is sensational, a professional, an incredible goalscoring machine but Messi is the most complete player. Messi’s an assist genius, the past 10 years he’ll get 30-40 assists and score 50 goals. He has an incredible way of playing.”

Messi ended the season with Barcelona with another domestic double but the Argentine would still be disappointed by the club’s failure in the Champions League. The Blaugrana were touted to at least make the last four of the elite competition but they only managed to reach the quarter-final stage where they were surprisingly eliminated by AS Roma.

La Liga president Javier Tebas: Real Madrid won’t match Neymar price tag

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a return to the Spanish La Liga this summer with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez said to be eyeing fresh faces for the first-team squad.

Los Blancos had a great end to the previous campaign as they secured their third straight Champions League crown but Florentino has still been fancied to bolster the squad during the summer after their not-so-good showing in their La Liga defence. The Capital outfit were out of the running for the Spanish league title from the opening weeks of the 2017/18 season and regardless of their mid-season recovery, they could manage a third place finish, 17 points behind champions Barcelona.

Bale To Leave In The Summer

There are some media reports that Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale might be sold during the summer. Zidane Refuses to Rule out Title Challenge from Real Madrid

Real Madrid had a major setback with regards to their hopes of defending the league title after a 3-0 loss against Barcelona in the latest El Clasico. Another heavy defeat against their main rivals means that Real Madrid have fallen 14 points behind the table leaders. It looks highly unlikely that Madrid will be able to defend the league title that they won in style last season. However, manager Zinedine Zidane, choose to remain defiant even after this defeat, as he said that the title race was still far from over. Ironically, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde also chose to stay in a similar fashion.

Zidane has had to change a lot of formation and personnel due to players like Cristiano Ronaldo not being in top form this season. The French manager has had immense success since taking over from Rafa Benitez just under two years ago. He has been able to win one La Liga title and two Champions league medals during this period. Few managers have been able to post such success is such a span of time. Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United despite suggestions that he could extend his contract at the Bernabeu. The Brazil international has emerged as an influential player under manager Zinedine Zidane, and he has already made 12 starts for the European champions in all competitions.

According to Diario Gol, Jose Mourinho is eyeing an ambitious attempt to pursue the enforcer, who he sees as the perfect foil to Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in a three-man midfield. United have endured a difficult situation this term with the likes of Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick out through injuries, and this has left them short in the centre of the park with just Matic and Ander Herrera to rely upon.

Zinedine Zidane relaxed about Cristiano Ronaldo's slow La Liga start

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is unperturbed by Cristiano Ronaldo's failure to score for the second La Liga match on the trot.

The 32-year-old made his La Liga bow for the campaign in midweek after serving a five-match domestic suspension.

Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes of the Wednesday night's shock 1-0 defeat to Real Betis, but the Spanish champions bounced back with a 2-1 win over bottom side Deportivo Alaves. The Portugal international was not in the best of form throughout the game, and it required Dani Ceballos to score his first two goals for Los Blancos as he shone in his full debut.
