Real Madrid left back Marcelo

Real Madrid left back Marcelo says that previous defeats against Atletico Madrid this season will not affect the club when they take on their arch rivals in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Madrid have been beaten several times by Atletico this season. Both teams have already faced each other six times and the meeting on Tuesday will be the seventh occasion this campaign. However, it appears that they are not bored of facing each other and it will be very difficult to separate the two teams in the first leg. Real Madrid have the overall advantage in the tie since the second leg is at home.

They will be hoping to take something out of the game at the Vicente Calderon. Madrid have enjoyed the upper hand over Atletico for several decades before Diego Simeone came to the club. This season has been especially worse for Madrid, as they have suffered four defeats and could only manage two draws from the other two games. A score draw would be a great result today as it would help Madrid get crucial away goals. Marcelo says that the team will be drawing a lot of inspiration from the Champions League final of last season when the team came back from the death in the last few seconds.

“I don’t know how many times we have spoken about Ramos’ Decima goal this week.We have changed so much since Lisbon. We have played against Atletico a lot and something always changes. There are no favourites in a match like this. We will give everything on the pitch without thinking about previous games. I was available for the final and I never lost faith in helping the team. That’s what happened and I was able to help the team win the Champions League. I consider myself very important in this team,” said Marcelo.
