RONALDO SIGNS NEW CONTRACT

No more than a week after Gareth Bale signed a new contract with Real Madrid, thus extending his stay at the Bernabeu Stadium, sensational forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has also done the same.

Before the new contract signing, Ronaldo’s previous contract with Real was billed to end just around the 2017-18 season.

However, the new contract will see the 31-year old striker stay on at Real Madrid until 2021. At the end of this new agreement, Ronaldo would have been at Madrid for no less than 12 years and would be celebrating his 36th birthday. And just like his previous signings have been, the forward’s annual compensation in the form of both salaries and bonuses have gone up to more than $50 million every year before tax.

Ronaldo, during a news conference on Monday which was held to announce the contract at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, said he hopes to sign another contract with the club after this and play till he is at least, 41 years old.

“Who knows what the future holds. Of course, I would like to end my career at this club. This is my penultimate contract. I want to be here for many years to come. I’m overjoyed.” He had said.

So far, in the whole of Real Madrid history, the Portuguese forward is at the top with the highest number of goals. Ronaldo has appeared 360 times for the La Liga team since joining them from Manchester United. Since joining the team, he has also won two Balloon d’Or trophies and may win another in January when the results for 2016 are announced.

He has won two Champions League title with the team with the latest coming in 2016 after he gave the final penalty kick that saw them win the title over rivals, Atletico Madrid.
