Zidane praises character of Real Madrid after Sevilla win

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has praised the character of his team after they picked up a crucial 1-0 victory over Sevilla in the latest La Liga outing. Madrid were coming into the game in deep trouble after having suffered a streak of poor results in recent weeks.

The latest match saw the club coming on the back of a two-game losing streak, which started with the shock loss against Deportivo Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu. This was followed by a 2-0 away defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk. After having made the long travel to Ukraine and back, the expectations were low on Madrid but they produced a lot of character to secure three points from the match.

An own goal from Sevilla goalkeeperYassine Bounou was enough to settle the game. After the game, Zidane praised his team for the character that they displayed. The three points is also very crucial forZidane’s future at Real Madrid. He was questioned about possibility of resigning from his job after the loss against Shakhtar Donetsk. It is rumoured that president Florentino Perez was considering the possibility of sackingZidane if the club lost against Sevilla. It would be a difficult decision considering that Zidane is a club legend – as a player and as a manager. Last season,Zidane led the club to a league title while he has also won the Champions League three times in succession.
"We've earned three very important points but the most important thing is the performance. From the first minute to the last we were excellent, even though we had to suffer a bit in the second half. This was a hugely deserved win over a top opponent, a side who can have you against the ropes at any moment. We overcame that and I'm very pleased for the players," said Zidane.
